Job Title: Learning Mentor- Alternative Provision
Contract: Full-time, Long term with the potential to go permanent for the right person Start date: January 2025 About the school: Axcis are working with a dedicated alternative provision that supports young people who may struggle in mainstream education. Their aim is to provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where students can thrive emotionally, socially, and academically. They work with students who have diverse needs, including social, emotional, and mental health challenges (SEMH), special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), and those who may have experienced trauma or exclusion from school. The Role: They are seeking a compassionate and proactive Learning Mentor to join their team. The successful candidate will work closely with students, providing one-to-one and small group support to help them overcome barriers to learning and develop the skills they need to succeed in education and beyond. Key Responsibilities: • Build strong, trusting relationships with students, offering emotional and pastoral support. • Develop and deliver tailored interventions that support students' personal, social, and academic development. • Assist with behaviour management and help create a positive, supportive learning environment. • Work closely with teaching staff and external professionals to implement personalized learning plans. • Encourage students to engage in learning, helping them set and achieve realistic goals. • Support students with SEMH, SEND, and those at risk of exclusion, ensuring their individual needs are met. • Act as a role model and mentor, fostering resilience, confidence, and a positive attitude towards learning. • Monitor progress and maintain detailed records of student engagement and outcomes. About You: • Previous experience working with young people, particularly in an alternative provision, special school, or similar setting, is highly desirable. • A patient, empathetic, and non-judgmental approach to supporting young people with challenging behaviour. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students from diverse backgrounds. • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. • A good understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and SEND. • Relevant qualifications in education, youth work, or mentoring are advantageous but not essential. Passion, dedication, and a commitment to making a difference are key.
