Axcis are working with a large SEN MAT in Plymouth who are looking for a Teaching Assistant to work alongside secondary pupils with ASD, ADHD and SEMH. These pupils have been approved by the local authority to learn in an alternative provision which is tailored to the pupils' health and welfare needs which cannot be met at a mainstream school. The role is a full time position; you must be able to work every Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 3:30. The pay rate is £70 to £75 per day.
The secondary unit caters for pupils with health and welfare referrals. Pupils could be too ill to attend mainstream school due to both physical and mental ill-health. Some pupils demonstrate other behaviours such as long term refusal to attend school on emotional grounds or an autistic spectrum diagnosis. All pupils have opportunities to be involved in alternative curriculum activities, ranging from learning outside the classroom to vocational work based training.
The ideal candidate must have experience working with pupils with ASD and SEMH including emotional or disruptive behaviour. Your role as a teaching assistant will be to work 1-1 or in a small group assisting their academia. You will be providing the pupils with emotional and behavioural support. The provision creates a school environment for all the pupils, this ensures they get used to classroom activities and routine, in the hoping they will return to school when well enough. You will be working with a range of complex needs; you must be updated in safeguarding policies. The kind of person we are looking for must be resourceful, adaptive and be able to use their initiative with a passion to support SEND pupils.
For this role we require the candidate to have the following:
" Min Level 2 in Teaching Assistant, Childcare , Health and Social or an equivalent Children Social Care Certificate
" Full, clean driving licence
" Enhanced child / child and adults DBS on the update service.
The role starts on 8th March on a long-term basis until end July.
