Job Title: Challenging Behaviour Mentor
Axcis are working with a pupil referral unit (PRU) in Dartington who are looking for a full time experienced teacher assistant to work with pupils aged 11 to 16 years (KS2/ KS4) with difficult and challenging behaviours on a 1-1 and group support basis. You will need to be available from 8:30 - 3:15, Monday to Friday, pay rate of £80-£85 per day and have a flexible, can do attitude. The suitable candidate must feel confident working with individual pupils in a public area or group work in the PRU. The PRU is a purpose built school with a fantastic outside area, a secure environment to work in with great resources. The main ethics of the school are: • To enable pupils to improve their behaviour to a socially accepted level and offer effective and appropriate support for their emotional difficulties. • To respect all pupils and encourage them to become active participants in their own learning, develop confidence, independence, self-esteem and express their needs and desires. • To seek effective links with pupils’ families, schools and other professional agencies. The ideal candidate will have experience working with either children or adults with difficult and sometimes intense behaviours or CAHMS. Maybe you have worked in a young offender environment or secure residential unit and you want to transition into working with children. You will ideally be a role model, mentor and daily support to the children you will be working with. If you feel that you can build relationships well, then we want to hear from you! Many of the young people struggle with using behaviour as a form of communication, so resilience is essential alongside a calm nature with the ability to de-escalate situations. Axcis offers excellent training opportunities, including CPD training sessions on Autism Awareness, Team Teach, Behaviour Management and Non-verbal Communication, to name but a few.
