Job Title: Secondary SEN TA
Axcis are pleased to be working with a special school in Exeter who are looking to recruit an experienced Educational Support Workers to work with secondary students with complex ASD, ADHD, PDA and severe social emotional and mental health / trauma based needs in both a classroom environment and in a 1-1 outreach capacity.
You will be working with small groups of students aged between 11 and 16, providing general support. You will need to be able to establish a good working relationship with the students very quickly and be used to working in a very intensely challenging environment. Most of the time you’ll be based at the school and several times a week you will accompany small group of students to outdoor educational activities across South Devon or carry out 1-1 educational support in the community.
These pupils all have an EHCP and exhibit highly challenging behaviour. Therefore, experience of working in an intense environment s and high levels of resilience are essential.
This role is only suitable for candidates who have worked within a youth offending, children’s homes, CAMHS or secure alternative education environment.
The role is full time (8.45am to 3.30pm) and will start ASAP on an ongoing basis starting in November 2021 until the end of the academic year. This role pays £80 per day.
The right candidate will be an inventive and positive worker who has a proactive attitude and will be calm and resilient in difficult situations. You will be a positive role model and will have a chance to make a real difference to a child’s life.
The pupil referral unit uses therapeutic approaches such as thrive to help pupils with social emotional and mental health needs to become confident and happy young people who are capable of regulating their emotions and contributing positively to society. The school is extremely welcoming, has a fantastic support structure and offers excellent resources for all staff that work there. A lot of these children have had difficult home lives and have been let down many times. You must have a calm nature and ability to de-escalate situations.
We are looking for someone who is unfazed by challenging behaviour and those trained in Team Teach and MAPA would be at an advantage. These children need a positive role model and the right candidate will be resilient, empathetic and understanding.
