Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant – Theale
A specialist SEND secondary school in Theale is looking for an SEMH teaching assistant to join their team. This full-time role runs Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, with an early finish at 4:00 PM on Fridays. In this role, you’ll be working closely with students who have social, emotional and mental health needs, offering both one-to-one and small group support to help them stay engaged with their learning. You’ll assist teachers in delivering tailored activities, adapting to different learning styles and using creative approaches to make lessons more accessible. A key part of your role will be implementing effective behaviour strategies, helping to create a safe and structured environment where students feel supported. Developing strong, trusting relationships with students will be essential, as will working closely with teachers, parents and external professionals to provide consistent support. We’re looking for someone with school-based experience working with SEND students, ideally within SEMH, but other relevant experience will be considered. Strong behaviour management skills are essential, along with the ability to remain calm and adaptable in challenging situations. You’ll need GCSEs in Maths and English (or equivalent) and a Level 3 qualification in any subject.
