Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Axcis Education is seeking a dedicated and experienced General Teaching Assistant to join a SEMH Specialist School in Sheffield. This school supports a diverse group of learners aged 9 to 16 with complex communication, cognition, and learning needs.
The school offers a broad and balanced curriculum with a nurture-based approach, making it an ideal environment for individuals passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in planning learning activities by identifying and preparing necessary resources to enhance lesson plans and learning outcomes.
Monitor and support student progress through effective communication with the class teacher.
Facilitate individual and small group sessions targeting reading, phonics, and mathematics to support academic progress, while also implementing specialised interventions to promote students' physical and emotional wellbeing.
Support children’s social, emotional, and physical development by creating a safe and nurturing learning environment.
Requirements:
• Recent and relevant experience working with children and young people in an educational setting.
• Strong numeracy and literacy skills in line with the National Curriculum.
• Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs, particularly those with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs.
• Proficiency in de-escalation techniques to support students in crisis; up-to-date Team Teach training is highly advantageous.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
