Special needs teaching assistant We are currently recruiting for a special needs school located just off the Bristol ring road in their pursuit of a special needs teaching assistant. The school have small class sizes and take in children with a wide range special needs including autism, complex needs, PMLD. Certain classes require things like personal care and use of hoist equipment. So care experience would be useful for such requirements. Working hours are 8:30-3:30, Monday to Friday and term time only, this is a long term commitment with the potential to go permanent for the right person. They offer great training opportunities and value their staff greatly, especially since they play a very important role to the students and the experience they have on their educational journey. People that do well in this school work well as part of a team, and contribute to the caring and nurturing environment the school aims to provide for students. Resilience and adaptability are attributes we would also look for in people, since no one day is going to be the same and there will be many times where the work day requires changes to what was planned. Skills we are also looking for include; - School experience, either from a mainstream or special needs provision. - Experience in working and supporting with special needs and is able to work well around parameters outlined in students educational healthcare plans. - If no school based experience, we would welcome those that come from the care sector who have worked with young adults with additional needs. - Confidence in manual handling and personal care are advantageous. - Big on nurture and empathy and can create long lasting and meaningful connections with children.
