Job Title: Teaching Assistant – former care workers wanted!
The Role:
A lovely specialist school in The Wirral is looking for full-time teaching assistants to work with children or young people from 4-19 years. The school provides an inclusive education for students with a range of complex needs, including ACEs, autism and severe learning disabilities. This role would be well suited to those coming from a care background, due to the SEND requirements and needs of the children. Ideally you will have prior experience working with children or young adults, though this is not essential. This role would involve working predominantly with autism, though the pupils may also have other SEND needs, such as ADHD, GDD, ODD or speech and language needs. Some pupils can also exhibit challenging behaviour on occasion.
You may be required to work across several age groups so flexibility is essential. The school is looking for new school care assistants to begin ASAP. The school will consider permanent contracts for staff who succeed in their role. There are part time and full time positions available
This large SEND school offers impressive training and career progression opportunities to ensure the best possible outcomes for the students. It is imperative that all staff working at the school are enthusiastic, passionate, caring and dedicated to the students and the school.
A successful teaching assistant will have the following:
- Experience working in a special school or care setting
- Knowledge of severe learning disabilities and profound and multiple learning disabilities – experience working with children or adults with these needs
- Training or experience in non-verbal communication (PECS, Makaton), hoisting and movement and handling (desirable)
- A willingness to carry out personal care
- A proactive and enthusiastic attitude
- Be reliable and consistent
