Job Title: Teaching Assistant – SLD
Axcis education are currently looking for a teaching assistant to work at a Severe Learning Difficulties school in Oldham, to provide 1 to 1 support for a young boy with non-verbal Autism and challenging behaviour at times. This is a full time role to support a new child that is coming from to the school due to his family moving into the area. The child is 8 years old however the school expect the support will be needed through out his time at the provision. This is a fabulous opportunity to work in a well established Severe Learning Difficulties school as well a build a great relationship with a young boy who just needs that little bit of extra support. This Severe Learning difficulties school has an intake of around 100 pupils with a range of different SLD. The school supports children with SLD, ASD, severe dyslexia and SEMH amongst other additional needs. You will be working along side an experienced staff including a teacher who has been at the school for over 10 years and a number of highly trained teaching assistants. The school has its own state of the art sensory room which was upgraded in 2018, state of the art technological facilities and free onsite parking with ample room for staff and visitors. For this role you will have at least 12 months experience of working with autistic children and will ideally will have training in team teach and moving and handling. However, the school runs these courses at the start of every academic year for all staff. The school highly values its staff and any addition skills such as Makaton or British sign language qualifications would also be useful and put to good use.
