Job Title: 1:1 Teaching Assistant - SEMH
**Job Title**: 1:1 Teaching Assistant (SEMH) **Location**: Preston, Lancashire **Working Hours**: Part-Time (12:15 PM - 3:15 PM) **The Role:** We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our inclusive mainstream primary school in Preston, Lancashire. This is a part-time role that requires patience, understanding, and a passion for supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You will work one-to-one with a child to facilitate their learning, emotional wellbeing, and social development during school hours. **Key Responsibilities:** - Work closely with the child to understand their individual needs and adapt support accordingly. - Assist in developing and implementing individual education and behavior plans alongside the classroom teacher and SENCO. - Encourage positive interactions and engage the child in activities that promote their learning and well-being. - Monitor and report on the child's progress to teachers and other professionals involved in their education. - Utilise de-escalation techniques and behavior management strategies to maintain a calm and safe learning environment. - Promote inclusion by encouraging the child to participate in classroom activities and interact with peers. - Assist with the development of social skills through planned activities. - Provide emotional support and develop strategies to enhance self-esteem and resilience. - Liaise with parents, carers, and other professionals to ensure a cohesive approach to the child’s development. - Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the school’s policies and procedures. - Attend and contribute to meetings and training sessions as required. **Requirements:** - Previous experience in a similar role working with children with SEMH needs is essential. - A relevant teaching assistant or childcare qualification is desirable. - Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with children, staff, and parents. - Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. - Familiarity with the primary curriculum and an understanding of how to differentiate to meet diverse needs. - Patience, creativity, and a positive, encouraging approach. - Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team. - Enhanced DBS check on the update service or willingness to obtain one. **To Apply:** If you believe you have the passion and skills to make a difference to a child's education experience, we would love to hear from you.
