About Us Nestled in the hills of Exeter the school utilizes and enhances student well-being and engagement. They deliver a unique curriculum that blends academic studies with vocational learning, ensuring every student gains the skills, confidence, and resilience they need to succeed. Their focus is on supporting young people who have experienced trauma or face significant social, emotional, and behavioural challenges. Role Overview As a behaviour classroom assistant you will provide individualised support to a designated student, helping them navigate both academic and vocational aspects of the curriculum. You will also promote emotional well-being and connection with peers, staff and their independence. Key Responsibilities • Deliver consistent 1:1 support, or small group, building a positive and trusting relationship with your assigned student. • Implement trauma-informed strategies to encourage participation in both academic and vocational activities. • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and adapt individualized support plans tailored to the student’s needs and goals. • Facilitate hands-on vocational learning opportunities, promoting practical skills and self-confidence. • Monitor progress, providing regular updates to senior staff and the student’s family. • Foster positive behavior, emotional regulation, and social skills through targeted interventions and informal interactions. • Act as a key liaison with parents/carers and external professionals, ensuring effective communication and partnership. What We’re Looking For • Experience in support work, residential care, or working with vulnerable children and adults is highly advantageous. • A strong understanding of trauma-informed approaches and restorative practices. • An appreciation for the benefits of rural and outdoor settings in promoting well-being and learning. • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and families. • Patience, empathy, and a commitment to inclusion and equality. • Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team. • Relevant qualifications in education, social care, or youth work (desirable but not essential).
