Here at Axcis, we are looking for a teaching assistant to join a PRU in Croydon. The role will be to support and mentor students within a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), focusing on improving behaviour, social skills, and emotional well-being. The role involves working closely with students who may be disengaged or excluded from mainstream education, with the aim of reintegrating them into full-time education or supporting their personal development.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide 1:1 and small group mentoring sessions focused on improving student behaviour and emotional regulation.
• Support students in setting and achieving behavioural targets and goals.
• Assist in the development of social skills, emotional resilience, and self-confidence.
• Build strong, supportive relationships with students to foster trust and engagement.
• Provide advice and guidance to students on social and emotional issues, working with other staff to create a holistic support system.
• Work closely with teachers, teaching assistants, and other professionals to monitor and track student progress.
• Contribute to the creation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs).
• Support and encourage positive communication with students' families, ensuring they are kept informed of progress.
• Monitor and record student behaviour and progress, maintaining accurate records.
• Provide regular updates to staff, parents, and external agencies on student development.
• Be prepared to manage difficult situations, de-escalate challenging behaviours, and provide support in crisis situations.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Experience working with children or young people with behavioural, emotional, or social difficulties.
• Strong understanding of behaviour management techniques and strategies.
• Ability to build positive relationships with young people from diverse backgrounds.
• Patience, empathy, and resilience.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
• Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• A non-judgmental, patient, and empathetic approach to students.
• Flexible and adaptable in managing different situations and needs.
• Commitment to improving outcomes for young people and promoting inclusivity.
• Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
