Job Title: Learning Support Assistant – ASC 1:1 Support Location: Bridport, Dorset Type: Full Time Start Date: ASAP We are excited to be offering a rewarding opportunity to join a highly regarded primary school in Bridport, Dorset, as a full-time Learning Support Assistant with a focus on providing 1:1 support for a student with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). The ideal candidate will be a compassionate and committed individual, dedicated to enhancing the learning experience and personal growth of our students within both the main class environment and our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision. **Key Responsibilities:** - Providing tailored 1:1 support to a student with ASC, adapting to their educational, emotional, and social needs to ensure they can access the curriculum effectively. - Working collaboratively with the class teacher and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to implement individual learning plans (ILPs). - Assisting in the development of resources and strategies to support the student’s learning and engagement. - Building a strong rapport with the student and acting as a trusted and supportive figure in their school life. - Encouraging the student’s independence, self-esteem, and social integration within the school environment. - Contributing to the assessment and review of the student’s progress, participating in meetings and reporting on observations as required. - Assisting with the adaptation of lessons to meet the needs of the student and participating in inclusive class activities. - Managing any challenging behavior effectively and sensitively, ensuring adherence to the school’s policies and procedures. - Collaborating with other professionals involved in the student’s care, such as speech and language therapists or educational psychologists. **Essential Qualifications/Skills:** - Relevant experience in a similar role or extensive experience working with children, preferably those with ASC or other SEND requirements. - A patient, caring, and resilient demeanor with the ability to remain calm under pressure. - Strong communication skills with proficiency in English, both written and verbal. - Ability to work constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities. - A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. - Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance. **Desirable Qualifications/Skills:** - A relevant qualification in support teaching and learning or equivalent. - Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and experience in implementing individual education plans (IEPs) for students with SEND. - Training in safeguarding and child protection.
