Job Title: Outreach Teacher
Axcis Education have a rewarding Teaching role to join their Outreach team, at an expanding SEND school in Exeter, to start in September, with the likelihood of a permanent contract if successful. Teachers with primary and secondary experience are desirable to the school, as you will be teaching all core subjects, focussing on the students interests to encourage their commitment returning to school. As the school is expanding their team, your creativity, and past skills can be tailored into the wellbeing of the school. The school caters for around 130 students aged 6 – 18 who are school refusers, they have an education health care plan presenting high anxiety, autism and SEMH. The school visit Haldon Forest once a week, have a 2-hour P.E lesson and a 1 ½ hour cooking lesson every day. The school is a calm setting which is vital in the development of the pupils. You will be working as part of the Outreach team, meaning you will work in the community, online or at the child’s home. You will work with all students on a 1-1 basis, building a relationship with the student and creating a safe space for them to learn. Every child you will be working with is a school leaver with high anxiety, autism and SEMH. They are very vulnerable with trauma, so a soft, nurturing approach towards the pupils is essential. All students at the school started their journey in the outreach team and progress to static classes and then tutor groups. You are at the heart of every student’s starting journey making it a very rewarding job. A driving license is essential and if you are successful, you must get business insurance. You are paid weekly, every Friday Hours are from 8:30 – 4:00, including PPA time. You may be expected to work later for planning if required.
