We are currently seeking a passionate and dedicated Primary SEN Teaching Assistant to join our vibrant school community in Plymouth, Devon. This rewarding role involves working closely with our Year 1 class, providing tailored support to pupils who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs as well as speech and language difficulties.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Establish constructive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
- Support pupils with SEMH needs by using strategies to manage behaviour and promote social inclusion.
- Provide specialized assistance to children with speech and language challenges, facilitating communication development.
- Aid in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to meet students' specific needs.
- Work closely with classroom teachers to adapt materials and lessons to suit the needs of SEN pupils.
- Assist with monitoring and recording pupil progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents as appropriate.
- Encourage pupils' engagement in the learning process and promote independence.
- Facilitate small group activities and interventions under the guidance of the classroom teacher.
- Attend and contribute to relevant meetings and training sessions.
**Requirements:**
- Experience working with children, particularly those with SEMH and speech and language difficulties.
- A patient, caring, and adaptable approach to working with children with diverse educational needs.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work as part of a team.
- A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent is desirable.
- Commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of all pupils.
- A proactive and creative problem-solver with a positive outlook.
- Willingness to learn and embrace new methods of support.
**Contract Details:**
The position is full-time and is initially offered on a temporary contract basis until the Easter holidays. However, there is the potential for the role to become permanent for the right candidate following a successful initial period.
