Job Title: Science Teacher
Position: secondary school science teacher Location: Croydon Job Type: Full-Time About Us: Axcis is working with a secondary school in Croydon, looking for a Science Teacher to work within a PRU. The school is committed to providing an inclusive and supportive learning environment where every student can thrive. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about working with children and young adults, offering tailored support to ensure they can reach their full potential. The curriculum includes subjects like Biology, Chemistry, Physics. Key Responsibilities: • Develop and deliver engaging lessons for secondary school students, following the national curriculum or specific exam board specifications • Integrate practical experiments and demonstrations to help students understand scientific principles. • Create a positive, inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and fosters interest in science. • Maintain discipline and manage student behaviour in line with the school’s behaviour policy. • Assess student progress through a combination of tests, homework, projects, and practical tasks. • Provide timely feedback and support to help students improve. • Record grades and track students’ progress, ensuring they are on track for GCSEs (or A-Levels if teaching Key Stage 5 students). • Prepare students for public exams by revising key topics, providing past papers, and offering exam techniques. • Oversee science labs during practical sessions, ensuring students follow safety guidelines when using equipment and chemicals. • Differentiate lessons and resources to cater to students with varying levels of understanding and ability. Skills & Qualifications: • A QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) is required to teach in state secondary schools. • In-depth understanding of scientific principles and the ability to explain them in a clear and engaging way. • Strong communication skills for explaining complex ideas to students of different abilities. • Classroom management skills to maintain a productive learning environment. • Practical laboratory skills and safety awareness when handling experiments and equipment. • Organizational skills for managing lesson plans, assessments, and student records. • A passion for science and education, with a drive to inspire students.
