Job Title: Secondary - SEND Teaching Assistant
We are seeking a committed and compassionate Secondary - SEND Teaching Assistant to join an modern school in the heart of Lichfield, Staffordshire. This role involves working closely with secondary school students who have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The ideal candidate will be someone who can provide tailored support and encouragement to ensure these students can access the curriculum, participate fully in school life, and reach their full potential. Key Responsibilities: - Assist in the preparation and delivery of tailored educational activities under the guidance of the classroom teacher. - Provide one-on-one support to students with a variety of special educational needs, adapting your approach to meet their individual learning requirements. - Encourage the social and emotional development of pupils, fostering independence and confidence in their abilities. - Monitor and record students' progress, reporting back to the SEND Coordinator and teaching staff as appropriate. - Liaise with parents, teachers, and other professionals involved in the students' education and care, maintaining strong communication channels. - Facilitate the inclusion of SEND pupils in general classroom activities and school events, ensuring accessibility and participation. - Manage any challenging behavior effectively, using appropriate strategies to promote a positive learning environment. - Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behavior Plans. - Attend training sessions and participate in professional development opportunities as required. Qualifications and Skills: - Experience working as a Teaching Assistant, preferably with SEND pupils in a secondary school setting. - NVQ Level 2 or 3 for Teaching Assistants or an equivalent qualification is highly desirable. - A patient, encouraging, and resilient demeanour, with a genuine passion for helping children with additional needs. - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of building rapport with students, staff, and parents. - A good understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and the ability to implement strategies to support pupils with SEND. - The ability to work collaboratively within a team as well as independently. - An up-to-date Enhanced DBS check or willingness to obtain one.
