Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant Location: Poole, Dorset Position Type: Full-time, Outreach Role Start Date: ASAP A specialist SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) primary school located in the picturesque area of Poole, Dorset, is currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to join their dynamic team. This outreach role requires a candidate who is passionate about supporting children with SEMH needs and who is a confident driver, willing to assist in transportation needs for the children. Responsibilities: - Work under the guidance of teaching/senior staff to support the delivery of quality education and provide tailored support to children with SEMH issues. - Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students with specific needs. - Provide emotional support and guidance to children who are facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges. - Facilitate outreach activities and transportation to engage students with their learning environment and external therapeutic services. - Collaborate closely with teachers and parents to reinforce positive behavior and promote inclusive education. - Monitor and evaluate students’ responses and progress against action plans through observation and record-keeping. - Support with the management of classroom resources and ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment. - Engage in professional development activities to further enhance skills and understanding of SEMH needs. Requirements: - Previous experience working as a teaching assistant or within a similar role supporting children with SEMH needs. - A valid driver's license and the ability to transport students as required. - A patient, empathetic approach, with the resilience to manage challenging behaviors constructively. - Excellent communication skills and the capacity to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team. - An understanding of the strategies needed to establish a supportive and nurturing classroom. - A commitment to continuing professional development and the flexibility to meet the changing needs of the students. - Enhanced DBS check or willingness to undergo one.
