Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant Location: Poole, Dorset Job Type: Full-Time, Temp to Perm We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team within a highly reputable school in Poole, Dorset. The successful candidate will play a critical role in our Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) provision, working alongside a specialized SEND teacher and a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to foster a nurturing and effective learning environment for our pupils. Key Responsibilities: - Provide tailored support to a diverse group of 8 pupils within the ASC provision, ensuring their individual educational, social, and emotional needs are met. - Work collaboratively with the SEND teacher and HLTA to plan and deliver engaging lessons that accommodate different learning styles and abilities. - Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with special educational needs. - Monitor student progress and contribute to the assessment process, offering feedback to the SEND teacher to help adapt learning strategies as needed. - Encourage and assist pupils with their work, promoting independence, inclusion, and participation in classroom activities. - Assist with the development of pupils' communication, literacy, and numeracy skills. - Facilitate a safe and supportive classroom environment, adhering to the school’s policies and procedures, including those related to safeguarding and child welfare. - Attend staff meetings and professional development sessions as required, remaining up-to-date with best practices in SEND education. - Communicate effectively with parents, caregivers, and other professionals regarding student progress and daily activities as necessary. - Provide additional support outside the classroom, such as during break times or on school outings, ensuring the safety and well-being of all pupils. Qualifications and Skills: - Experience in a SEND setting, particularly with children on the autism spectrum, is highly desirable. - A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification, or equivalent experience in an educational setting. - A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to working with children with special educational needs. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team. - Good organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. - A commitment to continuous professional development and a willingness to learn new skills. - An understanding of safeguarding procedures and a commitment to the protection of children.
