About the Role:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant (TA) to join our team in a special school setting. This role focuses on supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), personal care needs, and challenging behaviour.
As a SEND TA, you will be responsible for providing one-on-one and small group support to students, ensuring that their specific needs are met while promoting positive behaviour and emotional well-being. You will assist with personal care where necessary and support the classroom teacher in delivering a tailored, inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide individual and group support to students with ASD, personal care needs, and challenging behaviour.
Assist with personal care tasks as required, including feeding, toileting, and hygiene support.
Help manage challenging behaviours through positive reinforcement and structured support.
Create a nurturing environment where students feel safe, valued, and able to engage with their learning.
Work closely with teachers and other professionals to develop and implement tailored educational and care plans.
Monitor and track student progress, providing feedback to the class teacher and other relevant staff.
Support the development of social, emotional, and life skills in students.
Skills and Experience Required:
Experience working with children or young people with SEND, particularly those with ASD and challenging behaviour (desirable but not essential).
Strong understanding of personal care needs and how to support students with dignity and respect.
Ability to apply behavioural management strategies and work with students to manage their emotions and behaviour.
Patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to working with children and young people with additional needs.
Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
