Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant Location: Chorley, Lancashire Contract Type: Full-Time Job Description: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) Teaching Assistant to join our supportive and inclusive school community in Chorley, Lancashire. The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing high-quality support to students with a range of special educational needs and disabilities, ensuring they have equal access to learning and can achieve their full potential. Key Responsibilities: - Work closely with the classroom teacher to deliver tailored educational activities and differentiated instruction to meet the individual needs of SEND students. - Assist in the preparation of learning materials and classroom environments to support inclusive and accessible education. - Foster a nurturing and safe atmosphere, promoting positive behaviour and social skills among students with SEND. - Provide one-to-one or small group support to students with specific learning difficulties, physical disabilities, emotional and behavioural challenges, or other SEND. - Collaborate with the SENDCO (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator), other teaching assistants, and external professionals to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and support strategies. - Monitor and track the progress of SEND students, providing regular feedback to the teaching staff and contributing to review meetings. - Contribute to the overall ethos, work, and aims of the school, participating in training and development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in SEND education. - Maintain accurate records and reports pertaining to the students' development, behaviour, and well-being. - Ensure compliance with school policies and procedures, including safeguarding and health and safety standards. Qualifications and Skills: - NVQ Level 2 or 3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent is preferred. - Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, preferably with SEND pupils. - Strong understanding of the challenges faced by students with SEND and the strategies to support their educational and emotional needs. - Ability to build rapport with students, colleagues, and parents/carers. - Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills. - Committed to ongoing professional development and learning in the field of SEND education. - A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to working with children with diverse needs. - The flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and needs within the school environment.
