Axcis is working with a primary school in Croydon, who are looking for a early years teacher to join their team. The school is a dedicated in supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in an inclusive and supportive environment. They provide a nurturing setting that allows the students to develop emotionally, socially, and academically at their own pace. The teaching methods are designed to meet the unique needs of young learners with ASD, focusing on communication skills, social interaction, and early academic development through individualized teaching strategies.
You will play an essential role in providing high-quality education that promotes each child's strengths, builds on their abilities, and ensures their inclusion in the classroom. Key Responsibilities:
• Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons based on the curriculum, adjusted to meet the unique learning styles of students with ASD.
• Implement structured learning opportunities that support the development of communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation.
• Develop and use visual aids, social stories, sensory resources, and other tools tailored to support students with ASD.
• Assess and monitor student progress using appropriate methods, including observations, documentation, and individualized goal setting.
• Foster a calm, predictable, and structured classroom environment that promotes emotional security and reduces anxiety for ASD students.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with students, encouraging communication and social interaction skills, and addressing sensory or emotional needs as they arise.
• Work closely with teaching assistants, SEN specialists, and other professionals to ensure consistency and quality of support for students with ASD.
• Regularly communicate with parents and carers to share progress, address concerns, and discuss strategies for supporting learning and behaviour at home.
• Uphold the school’s safeguarding policies to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
• Recognise and report any safeguarding concerns in line with the school's safeguarding protocols.
• Provide emotional and pastoral support, ensuring that each child feels respected and valued.
Essential:
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or related special educational needs (SEN).
• Knowledge and experience in using specialized teaching strategies such as visual supports, communication aids, and behaviour management techniques for ASD.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with children, parents, and a multi-disciplinary team.
• A patient, compassionate, and proactive approach to teaching and student support.
