Job Title: Teacher for Alternative Provision
Calling all experienced teachers! Looking for your next teaching challenge? Then look no further! Axcis are pleased to be working with a Pupil Referral Unit in Weston Super Mare who are seeking an experienced teacher to join their secondary phase.
About the School:
This pupil referral unit is proud to support vulnerable young people from across North Somerset, providing alternative provision for pupils who are unable to attend mainstream school due to medical reasons or permanent exclusion. The school employs the Thrive approach and offers a flexible and personalised curriculum that builds student confidence and engagement. Many students who attend this school get the support that they need to either return to a mainstream setting with a new perspective and increased self-belief and determination to succeed or go on to gain formal qualifications through apprenticeships and employment. About the Role:
The role of an alternative provision teacher requires a blend of education, pastoral care and behaviour management. It will involve teaching a range of subjects with the goal of developing the whole child. You will be expected to teach the essentials, such as English and Maths, whilst supporting with the development of key skills, including citizenship studies, communication, emotional literacy and practical, transferable skills that will aid with independent living.
Key Details:
Salary: £110 - £140 per day
Hours: 8.15am – 3.30pm
Contract Type: Full-time with potential for permanent placement for the right candidate.
The ideal candidate has:
• Experience working with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
• Confidence setting boundaries and implementing behaviour policies.
• Experience working in an alternative provision or similar (youth support work/mental health support assistant)
• Relevant training (Thrive/Team Teach/MAPA)
• The ability to be adaptable and resilient.
• Full-time availability.
• A DBS registered with the Update Service.
