We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join a all through school in Salisbury, Wiltshire. This position requires a special focus on supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs within a trauma-informed educational framework.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs, assisting them to engage successfully with their learning and achieve their full potential.
- Work closely with the classroom teacher to differentiate materials and learning activities to meet the individual needs of students.
- Utilise trauma-informed strategies to create a safe and supportive learning environment that recognises the impact of trauma on behaviour and learning.
- Collaborate with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator, support staff, and external agencies to implement tailored educational plans.
- Monitor and track student progress, providing feedback to teachers and contributing to the evaluation of student performance.
- Assist with the development of social skills and coping strategies through mentoring and guidance.
- Facilitate the inclusion of students with SEMH needs in mainstream classes by providing support and encouraging positive peer interactions.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to remain current with best practices in supporting students with SEMH and trauma-informed education.
- Ensure safeguarding and welfare of all students, maintaining confidentiality and adhering to school policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with children, particularly those with SEMH needs, is desirable.
- Strong understanding of the principles of trauma-informed care in an educational setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, staff, and parents.
- Patience, resilience, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
- Commitment to inclusive education practices and a passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning.
- Relevant qualifications, such as NVQ Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent, are preferred but not essential.
