Job Title: speech and language therapist
We are currently seeking a qualified and compassionate Speech and Language Therapist to join our specialized team at a dedicated ASD secondary school located in Sutton, Surrey. The ideal candidate will have a passion for supporting students with autism spectrum disorder to enhance their communication and social interaction skills.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in students with ASD.
2. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans that cater to each student’s needs, fostering their ability to communicate effectively.
3. Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, occupational therapists, and other professionals to integrate speech therapy techniques into the student's educational and social environments.
4. Create a supportive and understanding atmosphere where students feel comfortable and motivated to engage in therapy sessions.
5. Document progress and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, adapting strategies as necessary to ensure continuous development.
6. Conduct group and one-to-one therapy sessions, utilizing a range of therapeutic interventions appropriate for adolescents with ASD.
7. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to share insights and plan cooperative strategies for supporting students’ overall well-being.
8. Provide training and guidance to school staff and families on how to support the communication needs of students with ASD.
9. Stay updated with the latest research in speech and language therapy and ASD to enhance service delivery.
Essential Qualifications:
- A recognized degree in Speech and Language Therapy or an equivalent qualification.
- Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Speech and Language Therapist.
- Experience in working with children or adolescents with ASD is essential.
- Knowledge of a variety of therapeutic approaches suitable for individuals with ASD.
- Enhanced DBS check (or eligibility to undergo checks).
Desirable Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with students, staff, and parents.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Patience, resilience, and a positive approach to working with children and young people who have complex needs.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
