Job Title: Teaching Assistant Location: Templecombe, Somerset Salary: £90 a day (PAYE) Contract Type: Full-time Job Description: We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a SEMH primary school in Templecombe. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing 1:1 assistance to students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, including ASC and SEMH. Responsibilities: - Provide tailored support to a designated student on a 1:1 basis, adapting to their specific educational and emotional needs to enhance their learning and development. - Implement individual learning plans under the guidance of the class teacher and the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO). - Assist in creating a safe, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment that encourages students to engage with their peers and the curriculum. - Utilise appropriate behaviour management strategies to maintain a positive and productive classroom atmosphere. - Support the student in developing social skills and fostering relationships with peers and adults within the school. - Work collaboratively with other members of staff, including the class teacher, SENCO, and multi-disciplinary teams, to monitor the student's progress and adjust strategies as needed. - Assist with the preparation of teaching materials, resources, and displays that resonate with the individual needs of the student. - Help manage transitions and provide support during lunchtime, break time, and during specialized therapy sessions, as required. - Maintain accurate records and observations of student progress, health, and well-being, reporting any concerns to the relevant professional. - Engage in continuous professional development to expand your knowledge and skills in supporting students with SEND. Requirements: - Prior experience working as a Teaching Assistant, preferably with 1:1 experience supporting students with SEND. - A passion for working with children and a commitment to helping them achieve their full potential despite their challenges. - A sound understanding of SEND, particularly ASC and SEMH, and the ability to manage challenging behaviour effectively. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport with students, staff, and parents. - Patience, resilience, and a positive attitude towards the education of students with additional needs. - An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one). - Relevant qualifications in Teaching Assistance or Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools (desirable but not essential).
