**About the Role:**
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a thriving secondary school in Andover, Hampshire. The successful candidate will be instrumental in providing support to students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs as well as those on the Autism Spectrum Condition. As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in our commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Work closely with the SENCO and teaching staff to identify individual needs and to track the progress of students with SEMH and ASC.
- Provide tailored support to students, both within the classroom setting and in smaller, focused groups or on a one-to-one basis, to promote engagement and facilitate learning.
- Utilise specific strategies and approaches to support the emotional and behavioural development of students, promoting positive behaviour and self-regulation.
- Assist in the creation and implementation of Individual Education Plans and Behavioural Management Plans.
- Encourage the development of social skills and positive peer interactions.
- Monitor and report on student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents/guardians as necessary.
- Assist with the preparation of learning materials and the adaptation of existing resources to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Manage any immediate issues or emergencies in accordance with school policies and procedures.
**Qualifications and Skills:**
- Experience working with children with SEMH and/or ASC is essential.
- A relevant teaching assistant qualification or willingness to work towards one is preferred.
- Strong understanding of the particular requirements of students with SEMH and ASC.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with students, staff, and parents.
- Patience, resilience, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
- Commitment to professional development and staying up-to-date with the latest educational practices concerning special educational needs.
- A proactive and flexible approach to work, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
- A current and valid DBS check, or willingness to undertake one.
