Job Title: Teaching Assistant Location: Chard, Somerset Job Type: Full-Time Working Hours: 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Teaching Assistant to join a dynamic team in Chard, Somerset. This full-time role demands a proactive individual who is committed to making a difference in the lives of children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. Key Responsibilities: - Assist in the planning and delivery of tailored educational activities for individuals or small groups of pupils with SEMH. - Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that meets the individual needs of pupils. - Work closely with the lead teacher to monitor and record pupil progress, adapting strategies as needed to facilitate each child’s development. - Communicate effectively with pupils, staff, and parents to ensure a cohesive approach to the child’s education and wellbeing. - Contribute to the management of pupil behaviour, implementing agreed strategies to support positive behaviour and emotional regulation. - Support pupils during social and play times to develop their social skills and interaction with peers. - Attend to pupils' personal needs, including social, health, physical hygiene, and welfare matters. - Engage in continuous professional development and staff meetings to ensure best practices are followed. - Adhere to school policies and procedures for safeguarding, confidentiality, and equality. Qualifications and Skills: - Previous experience working with children, particularly those with SEMH, is highly desirable. - Patience, resilience, and a genuine desire to help children with additional needs to succeed. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with pupils, teachers, and parents. - Ability to work as part of a team and on one's own initiative. - A valid driver’s license is desired given the location of the school and potential transport needs of pupils. - A relevant teaching assistant qualification, or willingness to train towards one, is preferred.
