Job Title:Teaching Assistant Location: Salisbury, Wiltshire Job Type: Full-time Axcis is working with a vibrant and inclusive educational institution in Salisbury, Wiltshire, committed to providing exceptional support to students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant to join their team of professionals in supporting the academic and social development of children with SEND. Key Responsibilities: - Offer one-to-one support and small group assistance for students with autism and other special educational needs. - Implement individual learning plans to meet the specific educational requirements of each student. - Utilize Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) to facilitate communication and social interaction skills. - Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the varying interests and needs of students. - Monitor and record the progress of students, ensuring that individual targets are achieved. - Collaborate with other staff members to create a supportive and nurturing learning environment. - Assist with the planning and delivery of individualised curriculum and inclusive activities. - Promote independence and self-confidence in students while providing safety and support. - Communicate effectively with parents, carers, and professionals regarding student progress and needs. - Participate in training and professional development opportunities relevant to the role. Essential Requirements: - Proven experience working with children or young people with SEND, particularly those with autism. - Understanding and experience of using PECS for communication with non-verbal students. - Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. - Experience with or willingness to learn about individualised curriculum planning and execution. - Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills. - Empathy, patience, and a positive, encouraging approach to teaching and learning. - NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent in Teaching Assistance or equivalent experience in a similar role. Desirable Attributes: - Professional training or qualifications specifically relating to autism or SEND education. - Experience in using alternative communication strategies and assistive technology. - A creative and flexible approach to teaching that is responsive to the needs of the students.
