Job Title: 1:1 SEMH Teaching Assistant
Teaching Assistant with SEMH Experience (1:1 Role) A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a teaching assistant to join a primary school in the heart of Barnet. The school is seeking an experienced teaching assistant with a background in Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) to support a primary student on a one-to-one basis. The school boasts a dedicated team of permanent staff who are looking for long-term colleagues. Role Overview: As a teaching assistant with SEMH experience, you will provide crucial one-to-one support to a primary student facing SEMH challenges as well as challenging behaviour. Ideally, you will have previous experience in this field and be adept at implementing individualised strategies. Your role will involve working closely with the class teacher to create a supportive and nurturing learning environment. Key Responsibilities: -Assist the teacher in planning and delivering engaging lessons tailored to the needs of the student with SEMH. -Provide individualised support and guidance to the student, ensuring their social and emotional well-being is prioritised. -Implement behaviour management techniques and interventions to support positive behaviour and personal growth. -Collaborate with the SENCO and other professionals to develop and implement a personalised care plan for the student. Requirements: -Previous experience working as a teaching assistant with a focus on SEMH is highly desirable. -A compassionate and patient approach to supporting students with complex needs. -Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with the student, staff, and parents/carers. -Understanding of SEMH-related challenges and strategies for supporting students effectively. -Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification) and additional training in SEMH support are desirable.
