Job Title: ADHD Teaching assistant
Axcis are working with a vibrant school in Tamworth, Staffordshire, and are seeking a dedicated and empathetic ADHD Teaching Assistant. The ideal candidate will specialize in assisting students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) by providing tailored support designed to meet their unique educational and behavioral needs. Through one-on-one sessions and small group activities, you will help create a nurturing environment that allows our students to thrive academically and socially. Key Responsibilities: - Work closely with lead teachers to understand the individual learning objectives and support needs of students with ADHD. - Assist with the delivery of personalized lesson plans and educational activities, adapting methods and materials to suit the learning styles of students with ADHD. - Employ a variety of classroom management techniques to maintain a calm and focused learning environment, minimizing distractions and interruptions. - Facilitate social integration and skill development, encouraging positive interactions and friendships amongst students. - Provide feedback to teachers on students’ progress, challenges, and successes, contributing to evaluations and behavior management plans. - Implement strategies to help students develop organizational skills, time management, and self-regulation. - Liaise with parents, educators, and other professionals to update them on student performance and collaboratively address any behavioral or academic issues. - Participate in professional development activities to stay current with the latest practices in supporting students with ADHD. Required Skills and Qualifications: - Relevant qualification such as an NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, or equivalent. - Previous experience working with children, particularly those with ADHD or other special educational needs. - Understanding of ADHD and its impact on learning and behavior, as well as knowledge of appropriate strategies to enhance student engagement. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, staff, and parents. - Patience, compassion, and the ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations. - Strong organizational and time-management skills. - An enthusiastic and proactive approach to supporting children’s learning. - Enhanced DBS check (or willing to obtain). Preferred Skills: - Training in SEN (Special Educational Needs) support. - Experience with IEP (Individual Education Plan) implementation. - Certification or workshops in behavior management strategies.
