Job Title: PMLD 2:1 School Care Assistance
Position: PMLD Teaching Assistant Location: Ealing, London Type: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 08:40am-4:00pm Support Ratio: 2:1 Start Date: February Are you passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of children with profound and multiple learning disabilities? We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Teaching Assistant to join our specialist team in Ealing, working on a 2:1 support basis with a student who requires high-level care and tailored support throughout the school day. Key Responsibilities: -Direct 2:1 Support: Collaborate with a second TA to provide consistent and reliable support for a child with PMLD, ensuring all their physical, emotional, and learning needs are met. -Personal Care Assistance: Provide dignified support with personal care tasks such as feeding, toileting, and mobility assistance. -Learning Support: Work closely with teachers to adapt educational materials and activities to support the child’s unique learning needs, following their EHCP (Education, Health, and Care Plan). -Medical Assistance: Assist with any medical or therapeutic needs the student may have, including administering medication or handling mobility aids, in coordination with healthcare professionals. -Behavioural and Emotional Support: Promote a positive learning environment, managing challenging behaviours with patience and positivity. Essential Requirements: -Experience in SEND Settings: Proven experience working with children with PMLD or other complex needs in a school or specialist environment. -Knowledge of PMLD Support Needs: A deep understanding of PMLD and the ability to address the sensory, physical, and cognitive needs of students with severe learning disabilities. -Training in Personal Care and Health Needs: Confidence in handling personal care tasks, with relevant training in paediatric first aid and familiarity with medical equipment (e.g., feeding tubes) being highly desirable. -Patience, Empathy, and Adaptability: An empathetic approach, along with the flexibility to adapt to varied daily requirements. -Have an enhanced DBS on the update service. Desirable Skills: -Communication Techniques: Proficiency in Makaton or PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) would be an advantage. -Relevant Certifications: Training or qualifications in SEND, ASD awareness, or sensory integration will strengthen your application.
