Job Title: Primary SEND Teaching Assistant
We are working with a lovely primary school in Newcastle, Tyne & Wear, which is dedicated to providing exceptional education to children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Our school boasts a nurturing environment where each child receives individual attention, and the staff is supportive and committed to each child's success. As a Primary SEND Teaching Assistant, you will be responsible for providing one-to-one support to primary-aged pupils with a variety of special educational needs. Your role will be paramount in facilitating the pupils' learning and helping them achieve their full potential in a safe and inclusive environment. - Work one-to-one with pupils who have SEND, including but not limited to Autism (ASD), Dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning difficulties. - Assist with the preparation and delivery of individualized education plans (IEPs) under the guidance of the class teacher. - Provide personalised support to help pupils access the curriculum, including modifying materials and employing various teaching strategies catered to individual learning needs. - Support the development of social skills and inclusion through structured activities and play. - Help manage pupil behavior in line with school policies and contribute to creating a positive, safe, and engaging classroom environment. - Record pupils’ progress and provide feedback to teachers and parents as needed. - Work collaboratively with other staff members, including Special Educational Needs Coordinators (SENCO), therapists, and support staff. - Attend and contribute to relevant meetings and professional development sessions. Essential Skills and Qualifications: - Experience working with children with SEND or the desire to work with children with additional needs. - A patient, caring, and adaptive approach to support children’s individual learning and emotional needs. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working closely with teachers, parents, and therapists. - The ability to maintain confidentiality and work within professional boundaries. - A relevant teaching assistant qualification or a willingness to undergo training. Desirable Qualifications: - Previous experience in a similar role within a primary school setting. - Specific training or qualifications related to SEN, such as Autism Awareness or Makaton.
