I am working with a great secondary school in Taunton that is currently hiring for an SEMH teaching assistant in their alternative learning programme. This role will involve working 1:1 with students that are currently learning life skills rather than following the usual curriculum. The students that you will be supporting have been placed into this programme due to struggles in mainstream education. This can be down to special educational needs or issues at home all falling under SEMH (social emotional mental health) They need a teaching assistant that is going to be able to feel comfortable working with these students and build relationships with them. You are likely to experience disclosures in this role so a good understanding of safeguarding would be essential. You need to be strong and personable to be able to work with these students. This role is to be a long term and eventually permanent in the school so you need to be able to commit to these children and this school on a long term basis. The pay for this role is £14.66 per hour.
