A well-established special school in Islington is looking for a dedicated and skilled SEND Teacher to join their team. The school provides a supportive environment for students with a range of additional needs, including Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) and those who display challenging behaviours. This is an excellent opportunity for teachers who are passionate about creating meaningful learning experiences for students with complex needs.
As a SEND Teacher, you will:
-Deliver individualised lessons tailored to the needs of students with PMLD and other complex needs.
-Focus on developing practical skills, communication, and fostering independence.
-Manage and respond effectively to challenging behaviours, creating a safe and nurturing environment for students to thrive.
-Prepare and implement individual learning plans and contribute to EHCPs.
-Collaborate with support staff, therapists, and families to provide holistic support to students.
-Monitor student progress and adapt teaching strategies to ensure every learner achieves their full potential.
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience working with children or young people with PMLD and/or challenging behaviours in a special school setting.
Strong classroom management skills, particularly with students who have complex needs.
A creative approach to teaching, using innovative methods to engage and inspire students.
Knowledge of alternative communication techniques such as Makaton or PECS (desirable but not essential).
The ability to adapt to changing schedules and student needs.
A valid DBS check on the update service or a willingness to apply for one.
