Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant - Full Time
Axcis are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant school in Birmingham, West Midlands. The ideal candidate will have a genuine desire to support children with varied educational needs and disabilities within a classroom setting. As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher to facilitate a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students. Key Responsibilities: - Offer tailored support to students with special educational needs and disabilities to help them access the curriculum. - Work under the guidance of the SENCO and class teachers to implement individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). - Assist in the preparation and delivery of learning activities, adapting materials and methods to meet the needs of individual learners. - Provide emotional support and encouragement to students, promoting self-esteem and independence. - Monitor and record student progress, reporting any concerns to the SENCO and relevant staff members. - Collaborate with other professionals involved in the students’ education such as therapists and educational psychologists. - Contribute to the creation of a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment. - Assist with classroom management and behavior support strategies. - Accompany and support students during social times such as lunch breaks and on school trips. - Help to develop students' social skills and integration with peers. - Attend and participate in relevant meetings and training sessions. Requirements: - Previous experience working with SEN students or relevant qualifications such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant certificate, or willingness to obtain one. - Strong understanding of the challenges faced by students with SEND. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. - Ability to work effectively as part of a team and build rapport with children, staff, and parents. - Patience, resilience, and a positive, encouraging approach. - Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. - A valid Enhanced DBS check or willingness to undergo one. - Flexibility to deal with the varied demands of the role.
