Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant (Secondary) Location: Okehampton, Devon We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team at a secondary SEND school located in Okehampton, Devon. Our school caters to students with a range of needs including Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH), Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in facilitating a nurturing learning environment where these students can thrive and achieve their full potential. Key Responsibilities: - Provide one-to-one and group support to students with SEMH, ASC, ADHD, and other learning difficulties. - Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs). - Support students with their emotional and behavioral needs, promoting positive behavior and social skills. - Work collaboratively with the classroom teacher to adapt materials and lessons to meet the diverse needs of students. - Monitor and record students' progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents as required. - Assist students with daily routines, personal care, and mobility where necessary. - Implement strategies to engage and motivate students in their learning. - Help create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment. - Accompany and support students on educational trips and activities outside of the school. Requirements: - A genuine passion for working with children with SEND and the desire to make a positive impact on their educational experiences. - Prior experience working as a Teaching Assistant or within a similar role involving children with SEND is highly desirable. - Good literacy, numeracy, and communication skills. - The ability to work effectively as part of a team and under the direction of teaching staff. - A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to working with students with challenging behaviors. - A proactive mindset with the ability to think creatively and problem-solve. - Due to the location of the school and potential requirements to transport or accompany students, driving is essential.
