Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant
Job Vacancy: Teaching Assistant (SEN/SEMH Focus) Location: North Bristol, BS10 Salary: £12 - £15.82 per hour (depending on experience and qualifications) Contract Type: Full-time Are you a resilient and compassionate individual passionate about supporting children with complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? We are looking for a full-time Teaching Assistant (TA) / Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join our specialist primary school in North Bristol, where we provide vital support for pupils who face challenges in building and maintaining healthy relationships due to their SEMH needs. Many of our students display severe challenging behaviours related to anxiety, depression, ADHD, oppositional defiance and conduct issues, such as aggression. We are committed to creating a nurturing, therapeutic environment that helps them thrive. About the Role As a Teaching Assistant, you will need to be emotionally robust and resilient to support children through difficult and sometimes disruptive behaviours. You’ll work in the classroom and during more practical, creative activities like art and play therapy, helping students engage with their learning while addressing their emotional and social development. Key Responsibilities: • Provide one-on-one and small group support for children with SEMH needs. • Collaborate with teachers and therapists to implement personalised learning and behaviour plans. • Help de-escalate challenging situations and create a calm, supportive environment. • Build trusting relationships with students who may be withdrawn or oppositional. • Assist with both classroom-based and practical activities, tailoring support to individual needs. What We’re Looking For: • Strong emotional resilience and the ability to manage challenging behaviour calmly and effectively. • A proactive, patient attitude and a willingness to listen and learn from experienced colleagues. • Experience working with children with SEMH or SEN needs is essential. • Open to feedback and committed to professional growth. This is a highly rewarding but demanding role. Many of our pupils have been excluded from mainstream schools, and their day-to-day behaviour can be unpredictable. Why Join Us? • Be part of a dedicated team passionate about making a real difference in children's lives. • Work in a child-centred environment where each student's unique needs are the focus. • Enjoy a supportive, collaborative work environment that values your resilience and commitment. If you're ready to take on this challenge and make a lasting impact, we would love to hear from you!
