Job Title: Teaching Assistant Location: Poole, Dorset Contract Type: Full-Time, Temporary to Permanent Start Date: As Soon As Possible A reputable primary school located in the heart of Poole, Dorset, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant to join their team in a Year 2 classroom. This is a full-time position with an immediate start, and for the right candidate, there is potential for the role to become permanent. Key Responsibilities: The successful Teaching Assistant will be responsible for: - Offering ASC (Autism Spectrum Condition) 1:1 support to a designated pupil, ensuring that they are able to access the curriculum and fully participate in classroom activities. - Leading small intervention groups for Maths and English to support children in reaching learning outcomes and improving their academic skills. - Assisting the class teacher with the preparation and delivery of lessons, creating an engaging and positive learning environment. - Monitoring and reporting on the progress of students, both in 1:1 and group settings, to the class teacher and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator). - Encouraging pupils' independence, self-esteem, and social inclusion, implementing strategies tailored to their individual needs. - Supporting the teacher in managing classroom behavior and maintaining a safe and inclusive school atmosphere for all children. - Participating actively in staff meetings, training sessions, and other professional development opportunities. Requirements: - Proven experience as a Primary Teaching Assistant, preferably within Year 2 or a similar setting. - Solid understanding of the national curriculum and experience with intervention groups for Maths and English. - Specific experience in supporting children with ASC and the ability to cater to their unique needs. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an empathetic approach to student development. - A relevant teaching assistant qualification would be an advantage (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools). - A valid DBS on the Update Service or the willingness to undergo a new check. - A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
