Position Overview: As a Behaviour Support Specialist at a Pupil Referral Unit, you will play a crucial role in providing guidance and support to students exhibiting challenging behaviour. Your unique skills and experiences gained from military service will be valuable in fostering a structured and disciplined environment conducive to the academic and personal development of these students.
Responsibilities:
1. Mentorship: Provide mentorship and positive role modelling for students, helping them build resilience and develop essential life skills.
2. Behavioural Support: Implement behaviour management strategies to address challenging behaviours, promoting a positive and safe learning environment.
3. Individualised Support: Work closely with teaching staff to tailor support plans for individual students, addressing their specific needs and challenges.
4. Conflict Resolution: Utilise conflict resolution skills to de-escalate tense situations and promote a calm and productive atmosphere within the PRU.
5. Collaboration: Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, including teachers, social workers, and counsellors, to create a holistic support network for students.
Qualifications:
1. Military Background: Significant experience in the military, with a strong understanding of discipline, leadership, and resilience.
2. Communication Skills: Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to engage with students, colleagues, and parents/guardians.
3. Empathy and Patience: Demonstrated ability to empathise with students and exercise patience in challenging situations.
4. Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
5. Adaptability: Flexibility and adaptability to respond to the dynamic needs of students and the PRU environment.
