Job Title: Youth Mentor
Step Up as a Youth Mentor - Be the Positive Role Model They Need!
Do you thrive on challenges? Can you think on your feet and make a genuine difference in the lives of young people? If this sounds like you, keep reading. We’re looking for a Behaviour Mentor to join one of Bristol’s top Alternative Provision settings, helping students who’ve struggled in mainstream education find their path to success.
What You Need to Know:
Job Title: Youth Mentor
Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 15:30
Pay: From £83.40 per day (PAYE, no hidden umbrella deductions!)
Contract: Long-term and ongoing
Location: Fishponds, Bristol
Why This School?
This isn’t your average school. It’s an Alternative Provision setting that takes pride in its trauma-informed approach. Staff work tirelessly to re-engage students with education by focusing on three key elements:
Engagement: Making school a place where students want to be.
Enjoyment: Learning doesn’t have to be boring—it can be fun!
Relationships: Building trust and understanding is at the heart of everything.
Here, you’ll help create a safe and inclusive environment that equips students for a positive future. Oh, and the team? They’re pretty fantastic, too.
What’s the Job Like?
Let’s not sugarcoat it: no two days are the same. You’ll be dealing with young people who face real challenges, from social and emotional difficulties to mental health needs. But for the right person, this is what makes the job rewarding.
Here’s what you’ll need to succeed:
Resilience: You’ll face tough days, but your determination will shine through.
Adaptability: Can you think on your feet and switch up your approach? Great.
Empathy: These students need someone who understands what they’re going through.
Humour: Because sometimes, a good laugh is the best medicine.
Who Fits the Bill?
Maybe you’ve got a background in sport or coaching. Perhaps you’ve worked in youth services or policing. Whatever your experience, if you’re relatable, good-humoured, and can lead by example, you’ll fit right in.
You don’t need to be an expert in education, but you do need to:
Have at least three months of experience working with young people.
Be a positive role model—great interpersonal skills and a positive outlook go a long way.
Commit to inclusivity and equality.
