Job Title: Vocational Instructor / Learning Support Assistant Location On the outskirts of Totnes, Devon Job Type: Full-time (Start ASAP) Working Hours: 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM Role Overview: We are seeking a passionate and versatile individual to join an alternative secondary provision as a Vocational Instructor / Learning Support Assistant. This role is perfect for a qualified teacher who is looking for a dynamic working environment and is keen on dividing their time between teaching Food Technology lessons and providing learning support as a teaching assistant. The candidate will play a dual role at the facility: delivering high-quality vocational education as an instructor and assisting in our classroom as a teaching assistant. The focus will be on supporting children with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties, as well as those who have experienced trauma. We are looking for a resilient, adaptable, and compassionate professional to help our students thrive. Responsibilities: - Design and deliver effective Food Technology lessons that cater to the vocational needs and interests of students. - Work alongside staff to support teaching and learning activities in the classroom. - Provide one-on-one and group support to children facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges. - Modify conventional teaching methods to suit the individual needs of students with diverse learning styles. - Collaborate with other educators, mental health professionals, and caregivers to develop individualized educational plans (IEPs) that support student success. - Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing feedback and additional assistance as required. - Foster a safe, nurturing, and positive learning environment. - Maintain professional and supportive relationships with students, staff, and parents. Qualifications: - Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching certification. - Experience in teaching Food Technology or a related vocational subject is preferred. - Strong background in supporting children with special educational needs, particularly those with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. - Ability to adapt teaching methods to support a variety of learning needs. - Patience, resilience, and a deep commitment to student development. - Relevant training or experience in trauma-informed practices will be an advantage. Remuneration: The successful candidate will be paid as a teacher for one day and as a teaching assistant for the remaining days of the week.
