Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: Bedminster, Bristol, BS3 Salary: £12.83 - £15 per hour (based on experience and qualifications) Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm We are recruiting Support Assistants to join a well-established, inclusive primary school in Bedminster with a strong focus on supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This large school, with three classes per year group, has regular opportunities for individuals who are passionate about working with children, particularly those with autism and challenging behavioural needs. This is a school that cares for both its students and staff, offering a supportive and nurturing environment, complete with a swimming pool and on-site parking. Key Stage 2 students at the school often present with challenging behaviour, requiring skilled, patient and empathetic individuals who can provide personalised support. Key Responsibilities: • Provide support to students with Autism and behavioural needs, primarily within Key Stage 2 and Early Years settings. • Adapt your approach to meet the diverse needs of students, helping them access classroom activities and build essential skills. • Work closely with teachers, SENDCo and other staff to create a positive, inclusive learning environment. • Support students in developing social skills, independence and resilience, while developing their emotional and academic progress. • Handle challenging behaviour in a calm, consistent and positive manner, promoting a structured environment for learning. Requirements: • Previous experience working in a school setting is essential. • Experience working with children with SEND, particularly Autism and behavioural challenges, is highly desirable. • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. • Patience, empathy, resilience and a commitment to supporting children’s individual needs. • Ability to manage challenging behaviour calmly and positively, promoting a nurturing atmosphere. • Adaptable and willing to engage in ongoing training and professional development.
