Job Title: PMLD Teaching assistant
Teaching assistant to work with primary age with PMLD
Axcis is currently recruiting for a brilliant specialist primary school in Dagenham, who are looking for a 1-1 teaching assistant to support a student with PMLD in year 4 for full days.
The Teaching Assistant for students with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties will provide essential support to students with complex learning needs. The TA will work closely with the teaching staff to create an inclusive, supportive environment that fosters learning, independence, and personal growth.
• class and at lunch (8.15am – 3.30pm) term time
• Start date ASAP to end of academic year
• Potential to be permanent role.
The school is looking for someone who
• Strong understanding of the needs of students with profound and multiple learning difficulties.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and patient approach.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and adapt to changing situations.
Key responsibilities:
• Tailoring learning activities to meet the specific needs of each student, including adapting tasks and resources to ensure accessibility.
• Actively involving students in learning activities, even if it requires modified methods, such as sensory-based activities or one-on-one support.
• Establishing trusting relationships with students to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
• Helping students develop basic social skills, such as taking turns, interacting with peers, and expressing their needs or preferences.
• Assisting with sensory activities that promote engagement and learning, such as touch, sight, sound, and smell-based tasks.
• Encouraging students to complete tasks independently where possible, offering prompts or support as needed.
• Promoting positive interactions between students with PMLD and their peers, fostering an inclusive school community.
