Job Title: Psychology Graduate - Learning Support
Psychology Graduate – Learning Support (Temp-to-Perm)
Location: BS11, Bristol | Hours: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm | Competitive Pay
Are you a Psychology Graduate – Learning Support looking to gain hands-on experience in a supportive and unique environment? Look no further! We’ve got the perfect opportunity for you to build a rewarding career while supporting young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
About the School
This isn’t your average school. Nestled in a quiet, serene location surrounded by nature, it’s the perfect place for anyone who thrives in a peaceful, outdoor-focused setting. The school has outstanding facilities for horticulture and gardening and is even a Royal Horticultural Society School – how cool is that? Plus, they encourage their learners to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh programmes!
With a focus on hands-on learning, sensory storytelling, and trauma-informed practices, this school is all about creating an enriching, supportive environment for every child. They use the PACE model (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy) and provide a broad, balanced curriculum that keeps things fun and engaging.
What’s in it for You?
Team Teach Training: Get certified in behaviour management strategies that make a real difference!
Multi-Disciplinary Support: Work alongside a team of professionals with expertise in SEN – it’s a fantastic learning opportunity.
Outdoor Learning: The school’s outdoor activities and garden facilities will make your day-to-day exciting and varied.
Hands-On Experience: Whether you're looking to pursue a career in Educational Psychology or gain experience working with ASC, PMLD, SEMH, and Behaviour, this school offers breadth and depth like no other.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Psychology Graduate – Learning Support, your day-to-day responsibilities will be both dynamic and rewarding. You’ll be:
Supporting Learners with SEN: You’ll work directly with students, helping them engage with the curriculum. This might involve providing one-on-one support during lessons, helping them with tasks or activities, and encouraging their participation in sensory storytelling sessions.
Assisting in Communication: Some of the students you work with are non-verbal, so you’ll help support them in using alternative communication methods like Makaton, PECS, or VOCAs. This means you’ll be trained to use these methods to ensure all students can express themselves in ways that work best for them.
Supporting Outdoor Activities: With the school’s focus on outdoor learning and gardening, you’ll likely be helping students engage in horticultural activities, planting, and caring for the garden. This is a great chance to get your hands dirty and make the most of the school's natural surroundings!
Promoting Social Skills: You’ll be helping students build their social and emotional skills, both in group settings and individually. You may assist with lunchtime or break time activities, fostering positive peer interactions.
Working in Small Groups: Many learners benefit from smaller, more focused group work. You’ll help run sessions where you assist with academic, social, and practical skills.
Implementing PACE: You’ll incorporate the PACE model (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy) in your approach, ensuring students feel safe, accepted, and curious about learning.
Who are We Looking For?
A Psychology Graduate – Learning Support (or someone with a related degree) who’s passionate about supporting students with SEN.
Someone with at least 3 months of experience working with young people or adults with SEND.
A team player with great interpersonal skills and a warm, friendly personality.
Ideally, you should already have a DBS on the Update Service (or be happy to apply for one).
