An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated SEN Teacher to join a special needs school in the London Borough of Brent. This school provides high-quality education and care for children and young people with complex needs, including cognition and learning difficulties. The school fosters an inclusive and supportive environment where students are encouraged to develop independence, communication skills, and confidence to prepare them for adulthood.
The school operates across five ‘villages’, creating a strong sense of community while catering to the individual needs of pupils aged 3 to 19 years. The curriculum is designed as a progression model, offering structured support, challenge, and encouragement at every stage of learning. The goal is to ensure that all students engage meaningfully in their education and develop a zest for life and learning.
This role is within a Key Stage 4 class, supporting pupils in Years 10 and 11 who have Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). The students in this class communicate using symbols, Makaton, and some spoken language. The class consists of seven engaged and motivated learners, all of whom are working towards increased independence and essential life skills in preparation for adulthood. The successful candidate will work closely with a team of three experienced Teaching Assistants, ensuring each student receives the support and guidance they need.
Key Responsibilities:
• Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to the needs of students with SLD
• Support students in developing their communication skills using Makaton, symbols, and speech
• Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants and other school staff to create an inclusive learning environment
• Implement individualised education plans (IEPs) and track student progress
• Provide a nurturing and structured classroom setting where students feel safe, supported, and encouraged
• Contribute to students' social and emotional development by promoting independence and self-confidence
• Ensure that all students receive personal care support as needed
Essential Requirements:
• Experience working in UK schools or care settings
• Strong understanding of special educational needs (SEN) and experience working with students with SLD
• Enhanced Child and Adult DBS, registered on the Update Service
• Willingness to provide personal care and support students' individual needs
This is a fantastic opportunity for an SEN Teacher with a passion for making a difference. If you have the relevant experience, skills, and enthusiasm to support learners with complex needs, we would love to hear from you.
